The “Scratch: Code Your Own Game” training series, organized by Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, İZFAŞ, OYGEM, and Altıncı Kat, took place every weekend between October 14 and November 5, 2023. The event, which was free of charge for all children who can read and write and can use a keyboard and mouse, took place within Fuar Izmir and was in high demand.
In the training given by Information Technologies and Software Teacher Safa Öztürk, who is working at Altıncı Kat, children were professionally guided in their first steps in coding and design.
The training used the Scratch programming language developed by MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology), which has a simple interface for children to use. Unlike other programming languages, Scratch allows the creation of games and animations by clicking and dragging functions with the mouse, allowing children to design their own games in a language that suits their cognitive abilities.
In addition to coding training, the participants were also provided with information on how algorithmic logic works, enabling them to develop systematic and analytical thinking. Young programmer candidates were presented with certificates of participation at the end of the training in order to support their interest in the field.
